Taking care of the temple

Man - this morning was a painful one. It’s pretty much 2 months exactly until Affiliate Summit and I have to say that I have been letting myself go in terms of physical fitness lately. I could blame it on having kids, could blame it on this ridiculous weather we’re having in Washington (we’re referring to this month thus far as “June-uary” as it’s the coldest June to date in over 100 years. The bottom line is though - that I have been slacking and it’s time to stop.

I found myself dazed this morning at 5 am when my alarm went off - wondering what the heck was going on. I got up threw on the work out clothes and headed to the gym and hit the treadmill hard. At one point, I struck up a conversation with the club owner who was on the treadmill next to me and she said something that hit home and reinforced why I was there. She looked more tired than I felt. I mentioned the “what am I doing?” question that I had asked myself and she gave me the real answer (not the one I wanted to hear)

Her response ” Doing something positive instead of ruining your life - way to go

It’s true - we can all justify to ourselves why we “don’t have time” or “can’t afford” to take care of ourselves and most importantly of the bodies that God gave us.

The other point hit home last night when my wife Melissa and I were balancing the checkbook. There was way too much Micky D’s, Burger Thing and Jack in the Crack in the old check register. I am pretty sure that less all that fast food, we’d both be about 5 lbs lighter over the last couple of months not to mention at least 50% more of our income left to do something worthwhile with.

I think Jimmy Buffet summed it up best in “Fruitcakes” :

She said you’ve got to do your fair share
Now cough up half the rent
I treat my body like a temple
You treat yours like a tent

So - here are a couple of pledges I am going to make between now and Affiliate Summit:

  1. We’re going to go out to eat 2 times or less in the next month - this includes fast food and family style dining
  2. I’m going to get active for at least 45 minutes at least 4 times a week between now at Affiliate Summit

I’m pretty sure that both of these pledges will result in a positive and 3 negative results

  1. The positive - more money in my bank account
  2. Negative # 1 - my weight decreases
  3. Negative #2 - my blood sugar decreases
  4. Negative #3 - my blood pressure decreases

You can follow all the fun on my other site at www.affiliatefitclub.com

If anyone else would like to take the challenge - get in touch and you can share your results on AffiliateFitClub.com as well.

God Bless,

Wade
