My next big project after the CAMA Cruise wraps up is a really exciting one: GodBlogCon 2008 and it’s affiliate marketing effort.

What is GodBlogCon?  It is a gathering of Christian new media pioneers: bloggers, podcasters, video casters, social network operators, etc who are all  making a stand for Christ on the web.   GodBlogCon is the event that is looking to pull a large number of these “Godbloggers” together to share fellowship with each other and learn from each other how we can me more effective in our online outreach ministries.

This year’s GodBlogCon is being held in Las Vegas, NV (God Blogging in Sin City?) on September 20-21 at the Las Vegas Convention Center in conjunction with the BlogWorld New Media Expo.  This gives Christian bloggers a great to both learn from other Christians, but also to be exposed to the secular New Media tools and techniques that we should be putting to work for maximum impact for Him.

I attended last year and loved it.  I met awesome bloggers from a lot of the major Evangelical ministries like Focus on the Family and the Family Research Council and I was so impressed with the experience that I am speaking this year and heading up the affiliate marketing effort as well.

I am really excited about this post as I have tried the product involved and I was really impressed with it. Let’s go back in time to Affiliate Summit in Miami last summer. I am a bundle of stress as the day of our Christian Fellowship Brunch is getting ready to kick off… I am tabbed to speak and I have written nothing. Andy Rodriguez, my main sponsor comes up an introduces me to Chris and Vin and Jesse from PianoWizard.com (one of his clients) and asks me for 15 minutes of time. They tell me that they are going to teach me to play Amazing Grace using the Piano Wizard system… in 15 minutes… in front of all 55 attendees. No stress right…. the sweat was pouring off me.

It worked… I played it… and it was fun.

I am really excited to be involved with the marketing effort for GodBlogCon 2008.

I attended the show last year for the first time and I was really impressed with the conference that they put together. I had the chance to speak with Dustin Steeve, the Senior Director of the GodBlogCon and we had a great time chatting about how the GodBlogCon came to be, the evolution from an event hosted on the Biola University campus, the show’s co-location with the BlogWorld Expo in Las Vegas last year and again this year.

We also chatted on some of the presenters and presentations including mine, and on the networking and fellowship opportunities. The value of this event really goes beyond the content. It’s about being able to site down with and exchange ideas with folks from the the local pastor just getting started to major Christian groups like Focus on the Family, the Family Research Council, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and more. It’s a really cool event.

I love seeing companies that are really involved in Evangelism and teaching the Word launch affiliate programs and i really love it when they have success with the affiliate channel. That sets the table for a conversation that I had last week with the team from MemoryCross.com

I sat down with Mike Vitamvas, Andy Lambert and Sandy Simpson and we talked about:

• The origins of MemoryCross
• Some of the major affiliations they have made (Billy Graham Ministries, etc)
• The prominent role of affiliate marketing in their online sales
• The details of their offer
• Their commitment to spreading the Gospel in all countries, including producing translations in a number of languages, as well as producing picture only versions.

• Their commitment to putting product in the hands of affiliates to let them see what they are promoting.

I just got an email today that confirmed some suspicions I had after receiving emails from a few affiliates and merchants who were reporting login issues. After 2 years of making a go at running one of the first Christian focused affiliate/CPA networks in the industry, John and Jack decided to call it quits (at least temporarily) last week.

The email from John indicated that all affiliates owed $10 or more in commissions would have a check coming their way by May 31st 2008 to close out the books. He also indicated that the hope at USN would be to resume operations if enough well converting Faith and Family friendly offers were identified.

I’m sad to see this happen within 1 month of Manna Marketing also going under. John and Jack are great guys, were excellent to work for (even though things didn’t work out) and were inspirations to me in my faith walk.

Christian merchants will now need to look to the secular platforms for their affiliate programs or to self hosted software applications. My recommendations for affiliate networks of choice are Shareasale for the budget conscious merchant, or AvantLink for the really serious Christian retail merchant who is looking for advanced datafeed handling and merchandising features.

I know there is a pretty serious concentration of Christian affiliates at Shareasale that are working with IBS Direct and Faithwear as well as SinglesofFaith, and I would love to see a good core of Christian affiliates at AvantLink as well.

I am also looking into another promising affiliate/ecommerce system targeted at the faith-based market, but I have some tire kicking to do before I recommend it.

I love nothing more than to promote solid Gospel promoting Christian offers that anyone out there with a church site, Christian website or blog, or opt in email list can feel proud to promote and know that they are safe in doing it.

There is a lot of garbage out there that is Christian targeting, and while I do take a shine to exposing these guys when they come up, I’d rather just focus on what is happening among the merchants and affiliates that are doing it right.   So….
